Who Is Londis Carpenter?

Londis Carpenter is a published author of poetry and prose. His first book Sketches From Life recieved a five star rating from Midwest Book Review.

Carpenter's story poems seem to create word snapshots that give us glimpses into his humorous and sometimes unique view of the world. Sometimes these glimpses are written in a style that makes us feel they are actually coming from a child's point of view, earning him a reputation as "the grandfather who never grew up." This also makes his poems excellent material for reading aloud to children. Because of his universal appeal, childrens and adults alike have taken pleasure in discovering and reading the clever wit and insight found in the poems of this important author of the new millennium.

Carpenter began his writing career late in life, after age sixty, at the request of friends and family who wanted his works put into written form. His first books were all self published and lack diciplined editing because they were practically rushed into print. This Web site is part of Carpenter's attempt to offer his works in a well edited and better prepared form that Londis feels his readers deserve.

Besides his writing, Londis (now age 68) is a machinist who still continues working at a factory in Indiana. He spent many years as an amateur entomologist and until recently freely shared his large and interesting insect collection with schools and libraries upon request. He also has been guest speaker in some middle school Reading and English classrooms where he has been allowed to read and discuss his style of creative writing. Londis has an impressive collection of letters he has received from some of these children who felt motivated by his classroom talks.

Although Mr. Carpenter disposed of his insect collection featuring insect fauna of the Great Lakes Region, he recently released an interesting book called Do Bees Poop In The Honey? This is a book mainly for young people and answers questions about the strange habits of insects. This book has been selling well on Ebay and in some book stores.

Carpenter's interest in insects is a theme that often appears in his stories and poems. For instance, his first complete poem, which became an illustrated story in book form, was about a boy who chased a dragonfly and discovered an amazing treasure of pinned insects in his grandfather's garage. That poem is called The Eye Of the Dragonfly and you will be able to read it on this website. These self published books have been freely distributed to doctor's waiting rooms and daycare centers in four states and are available upon request from the author.
